There’s a certain kind of magic that happens when love and architecture meet—and this engagement session with Beatriz and Jack at the Arkansas State Capitol is a glowing testament to that. Set within the grand marble halls of our historic capitol building, this session was a celebration of lovebirds now and a nod to all the lovers who came before.
As a history lover and hopeless romantic, I can’t help but stand back in awe at buildings or landmarks like this one. Each step down every hallway brings more questions than answers about all the people who have gone there to do business, to learn more about our state, or to say “I Do.” Walking into this stunning work of art with these two brought the realization of their genuine adoration for each other, and I watched as their love came to life. The Capitol building is an incredible reflection of the vast and grand love that is celebrated within its walls.
Beatriz’s dress (a stunning gown from Shona Joy) seemed to belong amongst the grand staircases and towering marble pillars – every gesture became angelic. It was as if the draping fabric had been made specifically for her!
The light inside the Capitol building is honestly every photographer’s dream. It seems to hit perfectly in its own way at any time of day, shifting the mood ever so slightly by the hour. We started inside the building, taking advantage of the incredible architecture, and then slowly worked our way out onto the front steps. If you thought the inside of the building was stunning, the outside is just as awe-inspiring. The first time I saw our Capitol building, I asked “This is in Arkansas”?? Who knew?!”
The 10 foot tall bronze-plated doors on the eastern side of the rotunda, originally the main entrance to the building, were purchased from Tiffany & Co. in New York in 1910. While they are no longer available for public use, many couples travel far and wide to have their photos taken in front of these majestic pieces of history.
This session was so much fun and I’ll never get over having the honor of documenting so many unique love stories. If you’re interested in booking a photoshoot at the Arkansas State Capitol building, an event form is required of the photographer, but they make the process so smooth and simple.
As their wedding day approaches, this engagement session serves as a timeless chapter in the story of Beatriz and Jack. I am so incredibly grateful for my amazing clients and the opportunity to be invited into such intimate moments with them. Wedding day can’t come soon enough!
